Colorado Springs police may sell seized firearms

This is a fine idea, especially when supplies are low:
"'We auction off cars. It seems to me there's not that much difference between a firearm and a vehicle," (Vice Mayor Larry) Small said. "We've got a number of homes we've seized. . . . We don't send a bulldozer over to them.'"
I urge you to send a note of thanks to Vice Mayor Small for his common sense.

Property is property, after all.

But often when cops become politicians, liberty can be the first casualty:
"The International Assn. of Chiefs of Police cautions against law enforcement agencies selling weapons they have seized. Destroying the firearms, it says, is a better policy."

† The Gospel of John Project from SermonAudio.com

I've been on the Sermon Audio mailing list for a couple of years now. In addition to the sermons and teachings they have for free download, they also have some projects that are worthy of support, such as The Gospel of John Project:
"Welcome to the Gospel of John Project — a genuine new outreach endeavor where the ultimate goal is to PRINT, MAIL and DELIVER as many copies of the Gospel of John as possible directly to homes in every major city across America. This project is made possible through the generous support of our sponsors.

"Any amount is welcome! No amount is too small! $10 will send 20 booklets. $20 will send 40 booklets. $50 will send 100 booklets. And so on..."
and this...
"The Gospel of John has been used more frequently than any other to bring people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ; it was written for that purpose."
Please take a look a see if you might be able to help this fine project.

The media thinks open carry is oh so scary!

Watch this long verison of William Kostric's interview with Chris Matthews:

God bless Father Pappas for his respect of private property, something precious we may not have for long if Obambi has his way.

And yes, it would be nice to see hundreds of armed folks openly carrying more often.

But I wish Kostric has said a few more things in his time with Mathews, to wit:
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Why did you bring a gun to a meeting with the President of the United States?

KOSTRIC: Did you see the shoes I was wearing?

CM: Shoes?! Whaddaya mean did I see your shoes? What are you talking about?

WK: Well, they're just some of the other legally-possessed private property I brought with me. Like the gun.

CM: Seriously, why did you bring a handgun?

WK: Well, a rifle's pretty heavy, especially in this heat...

CM: C'mon, why did you have that gun strapped to your leg. C'mon!

WK: Well, I'll have to confess: It always sends a thrill up my leg when I wear it...

Satan on Obama vs. Jimmy Carter

Those (including me) who were convinced that Obama would represent Jimmy Carter's second term, are being proven correct.

But as I have also said, there is an ominous difference.

Satan himself nails it in
this interview with Churchill's parrot (emhpasis mine):
"CP: President Jimmy Carter was of little more use in such instances, was he not? What’s the difference now?"

"S: Carter, though useful, was genuinely weak. Obama is not weak. He is a devout Relativist. Thus he believes quite deeply that America is no better than any other nation. That she has no special responsibility to maintain the peace in the world. That she has no right to the riches she enjoys. And that she is a bully and a rogue who must be brought to justice before the world. More importantly, Obama has the talent and the will to convert the unbelievers to this worldview."

I.D.F. vets train U.S. Jews to protect their communities

From Israel National News:
IDF Vets Train U.S. Jews to Protect Their Communities
by Maayana Miskin

Starting in late July, a group of Israeli combat veterans will be holding a training camp in New York to teach advanced self-defense techniques to Jews in U.S. communities. An increasing number of American Jews have expressed interest in the program following a wave of anti-Semitic incidents worldwide over the past year, organizers report.

The group calls itself Kitat Konenut New York – a reference to the “rapid response teams” active throughout Judea and Samaria. Rapid response teams in Israel, comprised of local civilians who are IDF veterans, have often been the first on the scene of terrorist attacks and other emergencies, and have prevented casualties.

It was founded in 2006 in response to a shooting attack at a Jewish center in Seattle, Washington. One woman was murdered in the attack, and several others were wounded.

The group is apolitical, and does not take part in demonstrations. “Our agenda is to protect Jews,” says group member Yonatan Stern.

However, the group does have a firmly held political belief. “We believe in the constitutional right to bear arms,” Stern says. Kitat Konenut encourages all American Jews to learn how to use weapons, and to purchase their own firearms for self-defense.

Trainees learn the IDF's unique martial arts style, known as Krav Maga, and learn to identify suspicious objects and dismantle improvised explosives. They are also trained to use a variety of both non-lethal and lethal weapons, including assault rifles and sniper rifles. Trainers review techniques to deal with situations ranging from knife fights to urban warfare.

Training this year will begin on July 31 and conclude on August 9.

Teacher, Can We Leave Now? No. (Afghanistan)

You may be repelled at the idea of reading a Thomas Friedman column, but this one deserves your time and attention:

Teacher, Can We Leave Now? No.
By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN
Pushghar, Afghanistan
Published: July 18, 2009
"I confess, I find it hard to come to Afghanistan and not ask: Why are we here? Who cares about the Taliban? Al Qaeda is gone. And if its leaders come back, well, that’s why God created cruise missiles."

"But every time I start writing that column, something stills my hand."
Seriously. This is worth a read. Good fodder for those of us who support the War.

How can anybody say we declared war on Islam?

Al Qaeda and the Taliban did!

Update July 21:

Along this same vein, Michael Yon has just posted some interesting photos with ample captioning, covering the Eastern European troops in Afghanistan and their roles and opinions about the work there. Highly recommended.
