Yes, they compromise. Far too much.
But as much as a I love and support Gun Owners of America, Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, the Second Amendment Foundation, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, among others, I simply cannot ignore or dismiss the value and influence of the National Rifle Association.
The NRA, with over 4 million members, remains a force to be reckoned with in the halls of Congress. They have a “seat at the table”, to borrow a phrase from the great Rollye James.
NRA programs train tons of people - police and private citizens alike - about firearms and their use.And they support and assist the creation and all-important protection of shooting ranges all across the nation.
Chances are your local gun club offers NRA courses in basic pistol, self-defense in the home, self-defense outside the home, and many more.
The NRA also publishes three excellent magazines that inform readers about guns, gear, and government as it relates to firearms.
And, recognizing that “arms” also include knives, the NRA worked hard to prevent the US Customs and Border Protection from declaring the majority of common pocket knives illegal “switchblades”.
So as much as I love the other “no compromise” gun rights groups, the NRA still has the biggest of parts to play in protecting our gun rights and promoting the safe use of guns.
If you're not a member, please consider joining the NRA.
