Who is The Armed Citizen? (New Exhaustive Study of Self-Defense Statistics)

"Who is The Armed Citizen?"

That's the headline next to the armed young female gracing the cover of this month's "America's 1st Freedom" magazine from the NRA.

(This fine magazine is yet another reason to join the National Rifle Association!)

The magazine reports on a study by the
Civilian Gun Self-Defense Blog which "tells a broad and - in some cases - surprising story about the nature of self-defense in America". Such as this:
"The most frequently reported crime prevented by armed citizens has been home invasion."

Sleep tight...

Trigger the Vote! Get Registered and Spread the Word!

There is a fear in our great nation – one that is not without basis.

Americans coast to coast are buying guns and ammunition at a record pace, because they fear that their Right to Keep and Bear Arms is in danger. And they are correct.

This fear has caused nationwide shortages of guns and ammunition. But emptying the shelves at gun stores is not the answer.

The answer is to Trigger the Vote.

Newly registered voters decided the last election. And they may decide the next one. Listen to my message.

Then join me – help Trigger the Vote today.

I’ll know if you don’t.

Why I (still) Support the NRA

Yes, they compromise. Far too much.

But as much as a I love and support
Gun Owners of America, Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, the Second Amendment Foundation, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, among others, I simply cannot ignore or dismiss the value and influence of the National Rifle Association.

The NRA, with over 4 million members, remains a force to be reckoned with in the halls of Congress. They have a “seat at the table”, to borrow a phrase from the great Rollye James.

NRA programs train tons of people - police and private citizens alike - about firearms and their use.

And they support and assist the creation and all-important protection of shooting ranges all across the nation.

Chances are your local gun club offers NRA courses in basic pistol, self-defense in the home, self-defense outside the home, and many more.

The NRA also publishes three excellent magazines that inform readers about guns, gear, and government as it relates to firearms.

And, recognizing that “arms” also include knives, the NRA worked hard to prevent the US Customs and Border Protection from declaring the majority of common pocket knives illegal “switchblades”.

So as much as I love the other “no compromise” gun rights groups, the NRA still has the biggest of parts to play in protecting our gun rights and promoting the safe use of guns.

If you're not a member, please consider joining the NRA.

Obama "wins" Nobel Peace Prize as NAACP snubs King to praise appeaser Kofi Annan

In its praise of Obama, the NAACP conspicuously failed to mention Martin Luther King, Jr., but they included FIRST on their exemplary list of Nobel Peace Prize* winners one Kofi Annan.

photo - Kofi Anna (l) meets Zimbabwe's dictator Robert Mugabe at the UN

This little man - a consummate appeaser - was the United Nations Secretary General from 1997 through 2007, and here's what he said in his farewell UN appearance when asked to name the best and worst times during his tenure:

“I think the worst moment was the Iraq war which as an Organization we couldn’t stop and I really did everything I can to try to see if we could stop it.”

Yet by May 2001, nearly TWO YEARS before the Iraq War even began, on his own home continent the Congo Civil War (also called "Africa's World War") had already claimed 2.5 million lives.

The Congo Civil War had already bumped the Iran-Iraq War (with as many as 1.5 million dead) from its infamous spot as number two in overall body count next to the 50 million plus death toll of World War Two.

No, no! Iraq was worse!

Well, give that man a prize!

(Oh wait - they already did...)

* after the winner spends the cool million, a Nobel Peace Prize and a dollar will get him a lottery ticket

Concealed Carry X-Ray (Art by X-Ray)

British artist Nick Veasey does very interesting work: He makes art with x-rays.

A slideshow of some of his work appears in the New York Daily News.

This one warms the cockles of my heart.

The World's voters are "getting it", rejecting the left!

I really enjoy Dick Morris' commentary and insight. You may think he's just a domestic political strategist, but he's also pretty solid on economics and foreign policy.

I think his latest column is right on target:
Voters are getting that the cycle of deficit, debt, and inflation is the inevitable consequence of statist economic policies.

Germany's decisive turn away from the left in its national elections signals this sea change in political behavior. After a decade of drift to the left, voters have discovered their bearings and their senses just in time.

Not only did Germany's Social Democratic Party, the world's foremost socialist political organization, lose more than one third of its vote, but the free market Free Democratic Party grew by more than one third. Merkel, who had to govern in coalition with the Socialists, now can indulge her personal philosophy and form a conservative coalition to lead Germany out of the recession. Now, Merkel can, indeed, be the Thatcher of Germany.

The next shoe to drop will be in the United Kingdom where Gordon Brown and his discredited Labor Party trail the Conservatives by seventeen points. London must call for elections by June of 2010. Brown can delay the day of his party's reckoning until then, but it must come.

These conservative triumphs will set the stage for the American Congressional elections of 2010. It seems certain that Republicans will gain enormously although whether or not this surge will be enough to capture either or both Houses of Congress remains to be seen.

Voters get that an orgy of debt can lead to an orgy of inflation. What better nation to teach the world this fact of economic life than one whose nascent democracy was strangled in its cradle by the hyper-inflation of the 20s opening the door to Hitler's ascension to power?
I've been singing this tune since shortly after Obama got elected - that the left will fail and fall.
