Here's a good reason why not: It doesn't help anything. If we took the entire $58 billion that Bill gates is worth (recent stock tumbles not included) and divided it evenly among all people in the US (301,139,947 in the July 2007 estimate) each would get a whopping $192.60.
It would be gone in minutes, and would anyone's life truly be better?
